IA02 - NANOSTRUCTURED TITANIUM FOR MEDICAL APPLICATIONS
Nanostructured titanium is commercial-purity titanium of grades 2-5 worked by means of a special process. The proposed process for manufacturing titanium wire relies on combining a well-known technique for grain refinement by severe deformation and a continuous forming process. Thanks to their fine grain, materials processed in this way show better mechanical properties and biocompatibility than unworked materials, and are therefore suitable for medical applications.
Benefits:
Smaller implants, higher strength, improved biocompatibility, less invasive surgery
Relevant fields:
Manufacture of dental and bone implants
Applications:
Dental and joint prostheses (in both humans and animals)
